A KIND CLOTH
Hello, I’m Claire, a textile artist working with plants and natural fibres to create wearable pieces of cloth which are intended to nurture the wearer.
Using the healing properties from locally foraged plants, I dye my yarn, before weaving it in to a piece of clothing infused with the plant medicine that on wearing can allow the wearer to feel truly taken care of.
I mainly use a Saori loom to create the cloth. Saori is a freestyle form of weaving which originated in Japan. There are no rules, no patterns to follow, no mistakes, it is the perfect art form for accessing a true flow state. I have found it a perfect way to translate emotions, or to channel intentions from our deepest selves into the cloth.
The way I see it, this process is a really powerful way to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. To empower, nurture, show love, offer protection, process emotions. It is also a way of slowing down, to really become grounded and connected to the landscape around us, and to cultivate real gratitude and awe for our plant allies!
